1.5 Explain the purpose of cloud-native design concepts.
Cloud-native designs lean on managed services and small, independent components so applications scale and fail gracefully.
Concepts
- Cloud-provided managed services
- Databases, queues, identity and other services operated by the provider, reducing patching and operational work.
- Microservices
- An application split into small services that are deployed and scaled independently.
- Loosely coupled architecture
- Components communicate through queues, events or APIs and do not depend on each other's internals, so one failure does not cascade.
- Fan-out
- One event or message is delivered to many consumers in parallel, e.g. a single upload triggering thumbnailing, scanning and indexing.
- Service discovery
- How services find each other's current addresses automatically as instances come and go (DNS-based or a registry).
